Maire Tecnimont to build polypropylene plant in Sumqayit

Azerbaijan’s state energy company SOCAR has agreed with Italy’s Maire Tecnimont on construction of a polypropylene plant in Sumqayit.

An engineering, procurement and construction agreement was signed between SOCAR and Maire Tecnimont on April 15 in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital. The project is estimated to cost 350 million euros.

The plant is planned to start production in 2016. It will have a capacity of 180,000 tons a year. The product will be exported to Turkey and the European Union.

It will be Azerbaijan’s first polypropylene plant.
