Azerbaijan: Human rights activist gets 6.5 years in prison

A grave crimes court in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on April 16 sentenced human rights activist Rasul Jafarov to 6.5 years in prison.

Jafarov, also a member of the opposition Real (Republican Alternative) group, was found guilty of tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of office.

He denies the charges as politically motivated.
