Azerbaijan says no need for OSCE office in Baku

Azerbaijan says no need for OSCE office in Baku

Azerbaijan has decided it no longer needs an office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Baku, Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said.

The Foreign Ministry gave the OSCE a month to close the office after the mandate of its project coordinator expires on July 4, Azimov said in a statement carried by APA news agency.

"The OSCE has had an office in Baku for 12 years. There have been many positive changes in Azerbaijan during this period,” Azimov said. "The country is developing fast in many areas. At some point, the government decided it no longer needs the office to continue operating.”

Azimov went on to speak about alleged human rights violations in the United States, saying the OSCE needs to investigate them.

No one has had the courage to propose sending an OSCE mission to the US to investigate issues like racism, election fraud, Islamophobia, excessive use of force by law-enforcement agencies, death penalty, illegal tapping, etc., Azimov said.

The diplomat said "no one can speak with us in the language of force”. "It will not work,” he said.
