France reach World Cup last 16

France advanced to the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Sweden in the Round of 32.

Didier Deschamps’ side will next face Paraguay, which eliminated Germany earlier in the knockout stage. 

France finished top of Group I and entered the knockout phase as one of the tournament favourites. Kylian Mbappe’s side had already secured victories over Senegal and Iraq during the group stage. 

The winner of the France-Paraguay match will advance to the quarter-finals.
