Neymar ends Brazil career after World Cup exit

Forward Neymar said his Brazil career was over after the national team lost to Norway in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. 

Brazil were beaten 2-1 by Norway and knocked out of the tournament. Neymar scored Brazil’s only goal from a stoppage-time penalty. 

The 34-year-old said emotionally after the match that his time with the national team had come to an end. Reuters noted that the game was played at the same stadium in New Jersey where Neymar made his Brazil debut in 2010. 

Neymar finishes his Brazil career with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 appearances. His only senior international title with Brazil was the 2013 Confederations Cup.
