Heavy rains flood area around Baku school, parents call for urgent action
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding around School No. 296 in the Ramana settlement of Baku, making it difficult for students to reach the school, parents said.
In videos sent to anews.az, residents reported that nearby houses have also been submerged and that authorities have yet to respond.
The Unified Water Supply Service of Large Cities said the area lacks a centralized wastewater network. It added that the flooding is a result of several days of rainfall exceeding six times the normal level, particularly in areas without sewage and stormwater systems. Many homes in the affected area were built on plots unsuitable for residential use, the agency noted. Efforts to mitigate the flooding are ongoing.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that drainage and water removal in the area fall under the responsibility of local executive authorities and water utility services, not the ministry itself.
