Hikmet Hajiyev: 421 people affected by landmines since patriotic war
Since the end of the war, 421 people in Azerbaijan have been affected by landmines, including 72 fatalities and 349 seriously injured, presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev said on social media platform X.
He noted that about 12% of Azerbaijan’s territory has been contaminated with more than 1.5 million mines planted by Armenia. Since 2020, over 400 civilians have been killed or seriously injured during peacetime.
In 2025, 69,200 hectares of land were cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance.
Overall, nearly 249,000 hectares have been cleared in the liberated territories since 2020.
The total number of mine victims in Azerbaijan exceeds 3,400, including 359 children and 38 women.
Following the Second Karabakh War, the number of mine victims reached 382, including 55 fatalities, with 143 civilians among the affected.
