BP introduces new protection systems against electrical interference on pipelines in Azerbaijan
BP is deploying new protective mechanisms on pipelines in Azerbaijan to mitigate the risk of damage caused by their proximity to high-voltage power lines, the company said.
Speaking at the “Asset Integrity, Corrosion and Coatings Conference 2025” in Baku, David Beshitadze, corrosion and materials engineer at BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Ltd, said the company is implementing a range of preventive measures to ensure safer pipeline operations.
These include renewable-powered protection systems, devices designed to reduce electrical interference, digital platforms enabling real-time monitoring of pipeline conditions, and mapping of high-risk segments along the route.
According to Beshitadze, the measures significantly reduce the impact of electrical fields on pipelines and lower the likelihood of damage, ensuring their long-term reliability. The systems are being rolled out in stages across major pipelines in Azerbaijan.
