German Carrier Launches WhatsApp Specific SIM Card Deal

German Carrier Launches WhatsApp Specific SIM Card Deal
10.04.2014 09:31
WhatsApp is proving itself to be an extremely popular instant messenger app. Recent stats revealed that the company processes about 64 billion messages a day which is a lot of messages being sent and received by its users. It could also explain why Facebook might be interested in the company and were willing to pay an eye-watering $19 billion for it.

Now it seems that WhatsApp’s popularity and its ubiquity have resulted in a German carrier creating a special prepaid SIM card that will give users unlimited access to WhatsApp on top of data limits. What this means is that you will be able to send and receive WhatsApp messages without it eating into your regular data which would make it great for power users and for tourists traveling to Germany but would like to keep in touch with friends and family with the app.The carrier, e-Plus, will be offering the SIM plan starting as low as $14 or alternative they can spend an additional $14 and get 600 credits that can be used towards additional data, calls, or SMS (1 credit = 1MB, 1 SMS, or 1 minute of phone calls). In fact this plan is great because even when you hit your data cap, you will still be able to send and receive WhatsApp messages.Given that WhatsApp will be launching VoIP services of their own, it is unclear if whether those services will be included as part of this deal. We can imagine that it might not be in e-Plus’ best interest to offer the service since VoIP calls would basically eat into its revenue. Either way it’s a pretty interesting idea and we have to wonder if carriers around the world will start picking up on it as well.(ubergizmo.com)ANN.Az
