Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines received permission from Azerbaijani side to operate flights to the country, the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) told Trend August 27.

AZAL said the request by Pegasus to carry out the flights from Turkey’s Istanbul to Azerbaijan’s Gabala and back was granted and the appropriate airport slots were approved.

"The decision regarding the date of start of flights on the route depends on the Turkish side,” said AZAL. "It is also possible that in winter this year one of the Turkish carriers will start operating flights to Lankaran.”

AZAL also said that the regular flights between the two countries get approved by intergovernmental agreements.

"A corresponding agreement between the civil aviation authorities of Azerbaijan and Turkey was signed November 2014, and currently its terms are being fulfilled by both parties,” the Azerbaijani airline further told Trend.

The airline also said it continues to closely cooperate with Turkish Airlines, which is carrying out flights to Baku, Ganja and Nakhchivan.
