Entrance to Baku to be restricted for cars with district registration

Sharifov said that some experts do not approve of the idea that passenger cars from districts should enter Baku in evenings only, APA reports.

"It’s twice cheaper to come to Baku by bus. And the foremost matter is security. Let’s take any European country, or Israel, which has a similar population as Azerbaijan. Israel’s yearly death toll from traffic accidents is 190 to 200, while in Azerbaijan an average of 1,300 people die in traffic accidents every year. And four times more people get injured on the roads in Azerbaijan than in Israel. Regrettably, none of us thinks about it. Human health is more important than anything,” the deputy PM noted.

Sharifov also spoke of the demand over trucks entering the capital in evenings, noting that the fact that it takes Baku residents an hour to get to a place which is in fact at a distance of 10 minutes.

"It also causes problems for the movement of ambulances. So we suggest trucks enter Baku in evenings. They say it’s dangerous to drive in the evening. What’s so dangerous about it? I think there’s no problem with it,” he said.

Asked about cars carrying ill people from regions, the deputy PM said that traffic police are instructed to allow such are cars to enter Baku.

"We keep talking about traffic problems all the time. Who says the entry to the capital is closed? This is misinformation. Anyone can come by car in the evening or by bus in the daytime, or they can park their cars at the city’s south or north exit and come to this city by bus, subway, or taxi in the daytime. For this purpose, there will be three stops, two of which will be put into use on September 15. The stops will have all necessary conditions and will be free of charge,” said Sharifov.
