Azerbaijani leader believes in longevity of Turkic Union

"The main factors uniting us is our union, ethnic roots, common history and culture. These are the factors making us stronger together. I am confident that future generations will also live according to these values and our unity will be eternal," Aliyev said at the fifth anniversary summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States held in Astana on Friday.

Aliyev spoke of the support for setting up a joint TV channel of Turkic speaking states.

"I am confident that the joint TV channel will reach an international audience within short deadlines and will create an interesting channel reflecting our policy. Because information security occupies a special place in the world today and each state should be ready for this. We should ensure our own information security and at the same time we should bring the truth about our countries to the world," the head of state said.

Speaking of the Karabakh conflict, Aliyev said that Nagorno Karabakh was a historical Azerbaijani land.

"And not only Nagorno Karabakh, but the ancient Zangezur Turkic land is also our historical land. At the beginning of the twentieth century, by disuniting Zangezur from Azerbaijan and handing it over to Armenia we have actually eliminated the geographical ties of the whole Turkic world this way. Indeed, our ties are getting stronger every day. But we are separated from each other in geographical terms," the president said.

He noted that today Azerbaijan has turned into a transit country for Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as energy carriers and other cargoes are passing through Azerbaijan.

"Transport security has an important significance for each member country of the Council. Azerbaijan seeks to make its contribution for thiscause by creating modern infrastructure," the head of state said. Noting that now Baku is building a new major international trade seaport and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway construction also continues, Aliyev said that "Azerbaijan will fulfill all of its commitments within the next few months."
