Azerbaijan would relax visa rules for foreign and stateless persons in a bid to simplify the visa procedure for foreign visitors ahead of the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku.

On April 18, 2016 President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on simplifying the visa procedures for foreigners and stateless persons arriving in Azerbaijan for organizing and holding the World Chess Olympiad.

According to decree, foreigners and stateless persons, arriving in Azerbaijan for organizing and holding the World Chess Olympiad, can get visas at the structural subdivisions of the foreign ministry's consular department in Azerbaijan's international airports.

A document confirming accreditation in line with rules of the International Chess Federation or official invitation letter issued by the  Baku Chess Olympiad Operating Committee  can be considered as a basis for visa issuance.

The holders of aforementioned documents can apply for visa from August 20 till September 20. The 42nd Chess Olympiad, will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from September 1-14 in 2016.
