European Chess Union President to visit Azerbaijan

President of the European Chess Union Zurab Azmaiparashvili will visit Baku.

The head of the European Chess Union will visit the Azerbaijani capital on December 17. Azmaiparashvili will participate as a guest of honor at the Memorial dedicated to the prominent chess player Vugar Hashimov.

Azerbaijani chess players Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov and Vugar Asadli will compete in the super tournament. Along with Azerbaijani chess players, Fabiano Caruana (USA), Sergey Karyakin (Russia), Hungarian Richard Rapport, Indian Viswanathan Anand and David Navara (Czech Republic) will compete in the tournament.

The tournament will be organized by the Vugar Hashimov Chess Foundation, supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and sponsored by SOCAR.

The Vugar Hashimov Memorial was first organized in 2014 in Shamkir. Current world champion Magnus Carlsen has won the tournament four times (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019), and Azerbaijani chess player Shahriyar Mammadyarov has won twice (2016, 2017).
