European Commission proposes to set price cap on gas from Russia

European Commission proposes to set price cap on gas from Russia
29.09.2022 13:00
The European Commission (EC), under pressure from many EU countries, came up with new initiatives to possibly limit gas prices in Europe, proposing, in particular, to set a price cap for Russian fuel, reported from TASS.

According to the text seen by DPA, the European Union should be ready to introduce measures to limit gas prices. EU's main goal is to guarantee lower prices for consumers this winter, the document says.

However, the authorities in Brussels are only partially responding to the wishes of EU members. In particular, the EC proposes to set the maximum possible price for gas from the Russian Federation. Another option, as noted by DPA, is to limit the price of this fuel in electricity generation to reduce its cost. Spain and Portugal have already introduced something similar.
