UN chief: World still facing nuclear danger
16.02.2024 19:00
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that the world was facing existential challenges.

According to the information speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Guterres said the global community was more fragmented and divided than at any time during the past 75 years.

"Today, in our multipolar world, we still face the nuclear danger," he noted.

Guterres added that even the Cold War era was in some ways less dangerous. He noted that the threat of nuclear war was real that's why the United States and the Soviet Union agreed on arms reductions, arms control and other mechanisms to prevent mutually assured destruction.

According to him, the world is dealing with two more threats: the climate crisis and uncontrolled artificial intelligence.

Humanity has not yet been able to take effective steps to respond to these threats, he said.
