A single-engine plane crashed near Azerbaijan’s capital Baku today, leaving three people injured.

The Cessna 172 F jet fell in an open area northeast of Baku shortly after taking off from a small airport in the town of Zabrat, local media said, citing police.

All three were members of the crew.

The jet, which was owned by the state-owned Azerbaijan Airlines (Azal), was on a training flight, police said.

Maharram Safarli, a spokesman for Azal, said the crash was caused by a motor malfunction.
