Azerbaijan’s AFFA pays ex-coach Santos €2 mln compensation after early dismissal

Azerbaijan’s Football Federation (AFFA) has settled its financial dispute with former national team coach Fernando Santos, who was dismissed well before the end of his contract.

According to Azerisport, the Portuguese coach received around €2 million (about 4 million manats) in compensation. Santos, appointed in June 2024 on a deal running until June 2027, was sacked following a 5-0 defeat to Iceland in September.

The team is now managed by Aykhan Abbasov.
