Pedestrian accidents account for most road crashes in Baku

Nearly 60% of road accidents in Baku in the first nine months of this year involved collisions with pedestrians, the city’s road police department said.

Pedestrian-related crashes made up 59.6% of accidents in the capital, compared to 39.1% nationwide. The department said many such accidents occurred due to pedestrians’ own negligence.

“Unfortunately, most of these incidents happen near pedestrian crossings, once again underlining the importance of personal responsibility in road safety,” the statement said.

Police urged citizens to cross only at designated places, stay alert at night and avoid using phones or headphones while crossing.
