Azerbaijan payroll workforce hits 1.78m as average monthly wage climbs 7.2% to 1,176 manats
The number of payroll employees in Azerbaijan stood at 1,781,100 as of August 1, 2026, with 836,900 individuals employed across the public sector and 944,200 in the private sector.
By sector, retail and wholesale trade together with vehicle repair accounted for 18.9% of all formal workers, followed by education at 17.5%, industry at 13.9%, healthcare and social services at 8.6%, construction at 6.8%, and public administration, defense, and social security at 6.1%.
Transportation and storage represented 4.4%, professional, scientific, and technical activities 3.9%, finance and insurance 2.5%, agriculture, forestry, and fishing 2.3%, while remaining economic activities comprised 15.1%.
Across the January–July period of 2026, the average monthly nominal wage of payroll employees rose 7.2% year-on-year to reach 1,176.7 manats.
