Azerbaijan warns of rising WhatsApp account theft cases

Azerbaijan warns of rising WhatsApp account theft cases
29.10.2025 15:00

Azerbaijan’s Electronic Security Service has reported a surge in attempts to hack users’ WhatsApp accounts via fraudulent links sent from fake or unknown numbers.

Cybercriminals use these links to trick users into sharing their one-time passwords (OTP) received by SMS, allowing attackers to gain control of victims’ accounts and message their contacts to solicit money or personal data.

Authorities urged citizens not to open suspicious links, never share OTP codes, enable two-step verification, and report any suspicious activity to WhatsApp’s support service.
