Forestry Service starts tree marking in sensitive forest areas

Forestry Service starts tree marking in sensitive forest areas
07.11.2025 13:30

The Forestry Development Service of Azerbaijan has launched an inventory and marking process in sensitive forest zones to prevent illegal logging.

The initial phase is underway in the southern region — in the forests of Yardimli and Jalilabad, overseen by the Service’s 11th Regional Forestry Center. The project will gradually expand to other forest territories with higher environmental risks.

Each tree is being registered with details such as species, diameter, and age. Through QR codes placed on the trees, the public can access detailed information via the website www.agac.az
. The system aims to enhance transparency and strengthen forest protection.

At the same time, large-scale work is nearing completion to update forest boundaries in cooperation with the State Property Service, expected to conclude by the end of 2025.

Over the past year, 1,869 hectares of forest land have been cleared of illegal occupation and involved in reforestation. Firewood collection for non-gasified villages, military units, and social institutions continues only in areas officially designated on the Ministry of Ecology’s website.
