The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated USD 1.25 million in technical assistance to Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), the company’s chairman Rovshan Rustamov announced.

He said the project will support preparatory work to improve energy efficiency across railway infrastructure, expand electrification and reduce carbon emissions. It also envisions a gradual phase-out of diesel-powered rolling stock and the integration of renewable energy sources — particularly solar power — into stations and service facilities.

Rustamov added that the initiative will enhance the sustainability and environmental performance of Azerbaijan’s railways and contribute to strengthening green development in the country’s transport sector.
