FIFA to open Central Asia regional office in Tashkent
TASHKENT, (Reuters) – FIFA will open a regional office for Central Asia in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent as part of preparations for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which Uzbekistan will co-host with Azerbaijan, according to a presidential decree.
The decision is outlined in a decree titled On measures to prepare for and host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, aimed at ensuring the tournament is organised in line with international standards and at strengthening Uzbekistan’s role in hosting major competitions under FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The FIFA regional office for Central Asian countries will be located rent-free at the headquarters of the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) in Tashkent.
Most costs related to establishing and operating the office will be covered by FIFA, while remaining expenses will be financed by the Uzbekistan Football Support Fund, whose contribution must not exceed 50% of total operating costs.
Renovation of the premises, along with the provision of furniture, equipment, technical facilities and vehicles, will be funded through the Reconstruction and Development Fund, the decree said. Minimum operational requirements will be determined by the Uzbekistan Football Association.
Officials said the new office is expected to strengthen coordination with Central Asian football associations and support preparations for the 2027 U-20 World Cup and other international tournaments.
