U.S. envoy says Washington does not seek regime change in Iran
The United States does not intend to pursue regime change or launch a military operation in Iran, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said in an interview with Sky News.
“I don’t think that is something the United States is actively involved in or trying to accelerate,” Huckabee said when asked whether Washington was seeking to hasten a change of power in Iran.
He said the approach outlined by U.S. President Donald Trump was based on respect, stressing that Iran’s government should not kill, injure or torture its own citizens for taking part in protests and that people have a right to demonstrate.
Huckabee added that he did not believe the United States or Israel were currently planning to enter into a conflict with Iran, noting that such decisions are made in Washington and are beyond his remit.
