Second lunar eclipse of 2026 set for August 28, Baku State University astrophysicists say
The second lunar eclipse of 2026 will take place on August 28, the Department of Astrophysics at Baku State University's (BSU) Faculty of Physics reported to APA.
Astrophysicists noted that the upcoming celestial event will be a partial lunar eclipse as the Moon passes through a section of Earth's umbral shadow, leaving part of the lunar disk illuminated while darkening the rest. The penumbral phase will begin at 05:23:55 Baku time, followed by the start of the partial eclipse at 06:33:48. The maximum eclipse phase will occur at 08:12:53. The partial phase will conclude at 09:51:55, with the penumbral eclipse ending at 11:01:41.
The eclipse will be observable across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. From Azerbaijan, only the initial penumbral stage will be visible in the early morning hours between 05:23 and moonset at 05:55.
