YouTube threatens to curb creator payouts over simultaneous Netflix deals
Alphabet's YouTube is weighing restrictions on monetization opportunities and marketing promotions for top creators who strike distribution deals with Netflix and post identical content across both services, Bloomberg reported.
The move marks an escalation in YouTube's competitive pushback against Netflix's growing interest in user-generated and influencer programming. Under the reported strategy, creators distributing videos on both outlets are far less likely to be featured in major platform promotional campaigns and risk losing allocations from high-tier corporate ad buys.
Conversely, YouTube is dangling incentives—including direct project production funding and preferential revenue splits from brand sponsorships—for creators who commit to platform exclusivity. The video platform is currently finalizing exclusive partnerships with several high-profile digital creators.
