US military destroys five Iranian oil tankers following missile strikes: CENTCOM
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers on September 8 in targeted retaliatory operations across regional waterways, APA reported citing an official military statement.
According to CENTCOM, the kinetic action was executed after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired ballistic missiles at U.S. Navy vessels twice over the preceding 48 hours. The strikes disabled and destroyed the tankers Kaviz, Charminar, Horizon 1, and Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, alongside the vessel Derya positioned near Iran's Kharg Island.
The command noted that this engagement follows an earlier operational strike on September 5, during which U.S. forces struck and destroyed three other Iranian commercial petroleum vessels.
