Arsene Wenger has made Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema his top priority, and has set aside almost £50m to secure the Frenchman's signature.

According to reports in Spain Wenger is determined to bring in a world class striker alongside Olivier Giroud, and will not consider other options until he has exhausted every option on Benzema.

The Frenchman is still considered the No 1 striker at Real, but AS reports that new manager Rafa Benitez is uncertain about his ability to play the pressing game the former Liverpool boss desires.

Arsenal have set aside €65m (£45.8m) according to the Spanish paper, although publicly Arsene Wenger has played down the move.

Elsewhere in Spain the focus is on Lionel Messi's bid to be fit for the new season, as he begins an individual training regime ahead of the UEFA Super Cup.

Italian paper La Gazzetta Sportiva claims that Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is set to follow his former team-mate Stevan Jovetic to Italy, with move to Roma almost completed.

The rest of the Italian press focusses on Sami Khedira's injury, sustained as Juventus lost to Marseille on Saturday night.

The former Real Madrid midfielder, yet to make his competitive debut for the Old Lady, sustained a serious muscular injury, and Corriere dello Sport reports that the club are already looking to replace him with a new purchase.
