Azerbaijan women win silver at World Chess Team Championship
Azerbaijan’s women’s national chess team won silver at the World Women’s Team Championship, which concluded in Linares, Spain. In the final, Azerbaijan lost to the FIDE team, representing Russia under a neutral flag.
In the first match, Azerbaijan fell 1–3, with Gulnar Mammadova and Govhar Beydullayeva drawing their games, while Khanim Balajayeva and Ulviyya Fataliyeva suffered defeats. The team lost the second match 1.5–2.5; Mammadova, Fataliyeva and Beydullayeva drew, and Ayan Allahverdiyeva lost.
Azerbaijan finished second overall, securing the silver medal.
Team leader and European champion Ulviyya Fataliyeva scored 6/10 and won the individual gold medal on board one.
