Armenia to remove Russian border guards from checkpoint on Turkish border
Authorities in Armenia plan to withdraw Russian border guards from the checkpoint at the Akhurik border post on the frontier with Turkey in the near future, Armenian media reported.
According to the reports, a decision to transfer control of the checkpoint has already been made and a flagpole has been installed at the site. Russian border guards will continue their service at the border post itself.
An assessment of the condition of the railway line towards Turkey is also being carried out in parallel.
Armenian media also reported that the Turkish side has begun construction work near the Margara border crossing.
