Moldova finalises exit from CIS after Sandu signs decrees
Moldova is finalising its withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States after President Maia Sandu signed decrees denouncing the bloc’s charter and founding agreements.
The documents have been published in the official gazette and entered into force. The foreign ministry will formally notify the CIS, after which the agreements will lapse in 12 months, Moldpres reported.
Parliament on April 2 approved the move, endorsing the country’s withdrawal from the post-Soviet grouping.
The decision underscores Moldova’s shift towards the West and away from former Soviet structures.
