Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has conceded defeat in parliamentary elections and congratulated Peter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, on his victory, Hungary Today reported.

With 98.74% of votes counted, the Tisza party secured 138 of 199 parliamentary seats, surpassing the 133-seat threshold required for a constitutional majority.

Orban’s ruling Fidesz party and its allies won 54 seats, while the Our Homeland party secured 7 seats.

Voter turnout reached a record 77.8%, up from 69.5% in the previous election.

Magyar, 45, a former Fidesz member who joined the opposition in 2024, has pledged to restore Hungary’s relations with the European Union and NATO. A new prime minister is expected to be elected within 30 days.
