Trump agreed to Iran ceasefire as military goals proved harder than expected, Politico reports
U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to a ceasefire with Iran after concluding that achieving his military objectives would be more difficult than expected, Politico reported, citing a White House source.
The report said Trump had come to believe the Pentagon may have presented an overly optimistic assessment of the conflict rather than the situation on the ground.
It also described a rescue operation for a downed pilot as “chaotic,” with the United States losing multiple aircraft.
Separately, Trump warned he could impose 50% tariffs on China if it provided military assistance to Iran, calling the potential measures “staggering.”
