Trump halts 50% tariffs on Canadian goods for three days
US President Donald Trump has paused the implementation of 50% import tariffs on Canadian goods for three days after Washington and Ottawa reached a preliminary trade consensus, Vesti.az reported, citing TASS.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump stated that the tariffs—originally set to take effect on the morning of August 19—were temporarily suspended pending final document finalization. He added that the cross-border Keystone XL pipeline project, halted under the Biden administration and designed to transport over 800,000 barrels per day from Alberta to US Gulf Coast refineries, could potentially be revived.
The delay comes amid intensive bilateral trade negotiations. According to Politico, talks encompass tariff rollbacks on automobiles and spirits, alongside Canadian regulatory concessions regarding import quotas for American dairy products.
