Asim Mollazade, leader of the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan and a member of parliament, has said that while his country and the United States are close partners in the areas of security and energy, some groups in the US and Europe are carrying out a dirty campaign against Azerbaijan.
These groups are very concerned about recent efforts to expose Armenian crimes, Mollazade said, speaking at a Baku conference titled "West’s double standards: democracy and human rights”.
As many as 19 US states have adopted resolutions condemning the genocide committed against Azerbaijanis by Armenians in the town of Xocali (Khojali) 22 years ago, Mollazade said. Twenty-five states have issued statements in support of Azerbaijan, he added.
By developing anti-Azerbaijan sentiment in the USA, Armenian lobbying groups are also doing harm to US interests, the lawmaker said.
"Some members of the Congress and Senate do not stop their Armenian lobbying activities even after taking office in the US administration,” Mollazade said. "This is against the interests of the United States, which is a friend of Azerbaijan. These activities only serve Armenian lobbying interests.”
Mollazade called on youth and civil society organizations in Azerbaijan to raise their voices of protest against the anti-Azerbaijan campaign that is being carried out against the country ahead of the innaugural European Games to be held in Baku next month.
