Azerbaijan expands restrictions for civil service appointments

Azerbaijan's parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building has reviewed the draft Civil Service Code, which broadens eligibility bans for public administration roles.

Under the proposed legislation, religious clerics, individuals holding foreign citizenship, and those bound by legal or political obligations to foreign states will be barred from serving as civil servants. The restrictions also extend to persons with designated medical conditions disqualifying them from public office, individuals dismissed from civil service for misconduct within the preceding six months, those declared legally incapacitated, individuals with unexpunged criminal records, and persons subject to court-ordered mandatory medical treatment.

The draft code maintains the current mandatory retirement age ceiling of 65 years for civil servants.
