Azerbaijan says 10 soldiers killed in “heavy fighting”

Three Azerbaijani and seven Armenian troops were killed in "heavy fighting” on Sept. 27 and in early hours of Sept. 28, the Defense Ministry in Baku said.

The Azerbaijani army carried out attacks on Armenian trenches and army positions in the rear, the ministry said on its website.

Many enemy soldiers were injured.

At least one Azerbaijani and four Armenian troops were killed in clashes last week.

Armenians captured nearly one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, in a war in the early 1990s.

While large-scale hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994, no peace agreement has been signed.

Armenia refused to comply with four UN Security Council resolutions demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory.
