Azerbaijan says six Armenian troops killed in latest fighting

About six Armenian troops were killed and many more wounded in clashes near Azerbaijan’s breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, the Defense Ministry in Baku said Saturday on its website.

One Azerbaijani soldier was wounded in the fighting, the ministry said.

Armenians violated the cease-fire 121 times in the past two days, according to the statement.

Armenia captured nearly one-fifth of Azerbaijan’s internationally-recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, in a war in the early 1990s.

While large-scale hostilities ended with a ceasefire in 1994, no peace agreement has been signed.

Armenia has yet to comply with four UN Security Council resolutions, which were passed in 1993, demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory.
