Russia seizes 230 kg of food on flights from Baku and Tashkent
Agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor seized and incinerated 232.16 kg of illegally transported livestock products at Perm's Bolshoye Savino International Airport during the first nine months of the year, the agency reported.
The non-compliant animal products—comprising meat, cheeses, butter, and traditional dried curd (qurut)—were detected in the baggage and carry-ons of 188 passengers arriving from Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In one September instance, border inspectors confiscated 1.22 kg of unlabelled, home-cooked lamb kebab intended for personal consumption.
To prevent the cross-border introduction of dangerous zoonotic infectious diseases, Russian veterinary border control authorities confiscated and destroyed the intercepted products via incineration.
