Most anglers might think fishing requires plenty of patience and skill - but this home movie shows a little bit of luck can also go a long way.
The clip captures the incredible moment dozens of carp leaped out of the water and into a family's fishing boat as they sailed down a drainage ditch near the flooded Spoon River in Illinois.
The four children on board the boat do their best to dodge the carp as they launch into the boat after apparently being startled by the sound of the motor.
The video was originally posted to YouTube in 2010 and has recently re-emerged on online forums.
The user who uploaded the footage said it showed his brother, nephews and a friend heading off on a fishing trip in the summer of 2010.
The father is heard saying 'here they come' and the boys duck out of the way as the boat speeds past the first load of flailing fish.
Moments later the first fish flops into the boat, prompting the boys to say 'woah' as their father whoops with excitement.
More and more carp leap from the waterway as the boat heads further downstream.
The boys grow increasingly hysterical, squealing, shrieking and shouting at the remarkable sight.
At one point, hundreds of fish appear to be jumping from the water both in front and behind the boat before it slows and comes to a stop.
One shot of the small wooden vessel shows at least a dozen carp have landed on deck.
The clip ends with the father declaring that his friend was going to turn the boat around.
The fish, believed to be Asian carp, are known for getting easily frightened by boats and reacting by leaping from the water.
They have the ability to grow to 100lbs in mass and to jump as high as 10ft in the air and numerous boaters have received injuries on account of collisions with the fish.
