Luis Suarez is used to being painted as the pantomime villain, but the Barcelona forward showed his softer side in a heart-warming charity video.
The 28-year-old striker surprised a young cancer patient in his native Uruguay, so much so that he left him in tears.
Mateo was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and went to the Perez Scremini Foundation for a consultation with doctors, but was told he would be speaking to a special doctor in Spain.
The young boy sat down with a doctor from the foundation and engaged in a conversation with what he thought was a specialist in Spain.
After initially playing along with the act, Suarez gave up his identity.
Upon seeing the Barcelona striker, Mateo was stunned and began to wipe tears away from his eyes.
The former Liverpool forward told him: 'You're a champion and very brave,' and promised to give him one of Barcelona shirts if he kept up with his treatment.
Mateo is a Barcelona fan and he told Suarez: 'Great goals you made the other day.'
Perez Scremini specialises in childhood cancer in Uruguay and treats patients for free with all costs being paid by the foundation.
Suarez is listed on the foundation's website as the 'Godfather', along with the support of his wife Sofia.
