US-sanctioned Iranian airlines halt flights to Georgia

Iranian air carriers hit by U.S. sanctions suspended flights to Georgia starting Monday, the Georgian service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.

The airlines operated their final flights to Georgia on September 20, with their operations in the country's aviation market restricted effective September 21.

On September 8, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added 27 Iranian aviation firms to its sanctions blacklist, including carriers operating routes between Iran and Georgia. Following Washington's move, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency stated that it would fully comply with the sanctions regime.
