Aliyev Receives OSCE PA President in Baku
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons Sampietro.
Commending the resolution of one of the longest-standing conflicts within the OSCE area and the establishment of durable regional stability, the visiting official congratulated President Aliyev on progress achieved across the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace agenda.
Expressing appreciation for the congratulations, President Aliyev noted with regret that the OSCE Minsk Group, tasked with mediating the conflict for nearly three decades, failed to deliver tangible outcomes, while UN Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces remained unfulfilled. The head of state emphasized that Azerbaijan brought an end to the dispute through its own politico-military capabilities, fully restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The parties positively assessed ongoing dialogue between Baku and the OSCE PA, drawing a contrast with the biased stance of certain European parliamentary institutions, and stressed the necessity of a balanced approach across the entire OSCE space. The sides also addressed intercultural dialogue and highlighted the significance of the 4th International Conference on Mine Action taking place in Baku, with Pons Sampietro noting that humanitarian demining remains a key priority on the assembly’s agenda.
