Qiz Qalasi: love, passion and pain back on Baku stage PHOTO

Qiz Qalasi (Maiden Tower), the first ballet in the entire Muslim East, was staged at the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Baku a few days ago. 
The orchestra was led by Cavansir Cafarov, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan. The chief choreographer was Tamilla Siraliyeva, People's Artist of Azerbaijan and laureate of the State Prize of the USSR.
The cast included: Polad – Gulagasi Mirzayev; Gulyanaq – Tamilla Mammadzada; and Cahangirxan – Anar Mikayilov.
The ballet by Prof Afrasiyab Badalbayli, People’s Artist of the former Soviet Union, was first staged in then the capital of the Soviet Azerbaijan in April 1940.
