Last month, sensational reports claimed the UFC's featherweight king was negotiating a deal to face the five-weight world champion, who is currently enjoying retirement.

McGregor brushed aside such talk in an interview with ESPN's Kenny Mayne but revealed that he is indeed open to fighting 'Money', who is keen to pit his wits against mixed martial arts' biggest star.

UFC president Dana White has dismissed suggestions of a super-fight between the two trash talkers ever taking place and has claimed that neither Mayweather or any member of his camp have got in contact with him to try and strike a deal.

However, McGregor's head coach - John Kavanagh - revealed last week that he believes his most famous pupil will one day lock horns with Mayweather, who he's traded verbal jabs with on several occasions.

Jeffries, who recently trained with McGregor in his Los Angeles gym, agrees with that notion and is eager to see the Irishman take on the boxing legend.

"I think it's a possibility it could happen," the Olympic bronze medallist told Starsport.

"People are saying it's a circus and all that but I think it could happen. And why not?

"The biggest pay-per-view star of all time in boxing against the biggest pay-per-view star of all time in MMA.

"I would like to see it. With it being two different sports it might be (difficult). But I would really like to see that fight. I really would."

McGregor's next outing in the Octagon takes place at UFC 202, where he will have a rematch with Ultimate fighter season five winner Nate Diaz.
