Britain blocks UN Security Council session over Ukraine’s Bucha situation

Britain blocks UN Security Council session over Ukraine’s Bucha situation

Britain has not agreed to convene the UN Security Council session on the situation in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, and Russia will demand a new meeting, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on a Telegram Channel.

"In conformity with the worst British tradition, the UK, which holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, did not agree to convene the UN Security Council meeting on Bucha yesterday. Russia will demand the convening of the UN Security Council session again today," she said.

After the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Bucha on March 31, numerous war crimes - the killing of civilians, torture, rape, and looting - were revealed in the city.

Photos taken by journalists that depict bodies of civilians in the liberated Bucha have spread around the world. The incident was condemned by activists, politicians, and figures of culture in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. A number of reputable publications and experts have described the incident as an act of genocide, and the perpetrators of the massacre have been compared to Nazi Germany's war criminals.

On April 3, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that troops had left Bucha on March 30, and photos and videos taken from the city had been doctored and were a provocation and that no residents had been harmed during the Russian military's stay in the city. In this regard, Russia has demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the events in Bucha. At the same time, the USA and Britain have accused Russia of using Security Council sessions to spread misinformation.
