Azerbaijan and Georgia have discussed measures to simplify customs procedures and expand bilateral cooperation, according to an official statement.

Head of Georgia’s Revenue Service at the Finance Ministry Irakli Beraya held a working meeting with Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Georgia, Faig Guliyev. The talks covered regionally significant projects as well as steps to boost cargo traffic between the two countries.

The sides focused in particular on easing customs procedures at border crossings and strengthening cooperation in combating illicit drug trafficking.

They also discussed the construction of a joint “Silk Road” customs checkpoint, saying the project would make a significant contribution to strengthening the region’s transit potential.
