Armenia expects a direct railway connection with Baku to be launched within the next few years under the TRIPP project, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Papoyan also said that positive developments regarding the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border could be announced in the near future.

“It is very good that Turkey is, at least economically, our largest neighbour by GDP. We have an opportunity to open the border,” he said.

Earlier, Papoyan said Armenia and Azerbaijan had exchanged lists of goods of mutual interest, with a response from the business community expected soon.

He noted that there is currently no active trade between the two countries, as the markets remain largely unfamiliar with each other and the development of sustainable trade ties takes time and largely depends on the private sector.
