The Hidro-3 project, covering the Mirik and Garagishlag small hydropower plants located in Azerbaijan’s Lachin district, has entered the international carbon market under cooperation between SOCAR Trading and AzerEnergy.

The project was registered on May 28, 2025, by Gold Standard, one of the world’s leading carbon certification bodies. Carbon credits under the Hidro-3 project were officially issued on January 28, 2026.

This marks Azerbaijan’s first internationally certified carbon credits in the renewable energy sector.

The credits cover the period from April 2024 to August 2025 and amount to 10,745 carbon units, confirming the project’s measurable contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The project’s entry into the international carbon market underscores Azerbaijan’s green energy strategy and highlights the internationally recognized renewable energy potential of the Karabakh region.
